Checks and Balances
The three branches of government are not entirely separated nor completely independent of one another. Each branch is subject to a number of constitutional checks by the other branches. Each branch has certain powers with which it can check the operation of the other two. This system makes goverment less effcient but also prevents tyranny by one branch of goverment.
